When I was in middle school or so I read this book called Prospero’s Children that had the coolest mermaid prologue ever. Actually I don’t think I ever finished that book. It’s in storage somewhere >_>Ooh, I’ll have to check it out! =o
I’ve been looking for good mermaid books lately, but all I can find is weird YA novels. Nothing against YA novels, it’s just that the ones I find are kind of…just not appealing.
The book itself was about Atlantis, I think? But the prologue had a badass mermaid in it. If I remember correctly she saves a sailor’s live, and he captures her and tells her she has to bring him her treasure or he’ll kill her by burning a lock of her hair. So she brings him this key and says it’s her greatest treasure, and he gets mad and kills her anyway because she didn’t bring him gold. Then it turns out it’s like, the key to Atlantis that can transcend motherfucking time and space or some shit.
